Our club supports a number of projects, benefitting diverse communities.

Sustainability, accountability and long term project viability are important - that is why we see that either sustainability links are established, or we get involved in ongoing project management.

Annual Projects

The Annual Projects are those projects that may take nine months of planning, but take place over a few days, roughly the same time every year.

Rotary Family Health Days is a relatively recent addition to the annual calendar. The project is a collaboration between various local Rotary Clubs.

Concert in a Convent Garden is a fundraiser organised in partnership with Kromboom RC.

Rotary Family Fun Day sees WRC collaborating with inner city and Atlantic seaboard RCs. A ride on the little blue train - "Old Lady" is the highlight of the day.

WRC has been involved with the Cape Town Cycle Tour for many, many years and apart from marshalling a key points, we sell parking tickets and occasionally have a rider in the race...

One-to-One - a grand day out for physically and mentally disabled Capetonians... a chance to play some games, have some fun, get loads of prizes and enjoy delicious eats.

It has been running for many years and it is organised by a number of service clubs (including local Rotary and Interact Clubs). It is generally well supported by the City of Cape Town.

Youth Projects

Rotarians, dedicated teachers and bright enthusiastic young people - who often express the desire to share and 'give' (even though they themselves have very little) - provide the energy for our Youth Projects that are some of our most active and rewarding initiatives.

Here we celebrate Interact, EarlyAct, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Debating and Peer Mediation.

Nafeesah Hendricks 2017 EarlyAct Club President with Siham Boda and George Mua.

Developing Libraries

The focus of the project is developing fully-stocked libraries managed by a trained librarian or library assistant in seven primary schools of the greater Cape Town area.

We can be very proud of our endeavours at Schotschekloof Primary School and we are extremely privileged to have a passionate librarian in Haneem. In the picture is David Catling and librarian Haneem Majiet-Abader.

Joint Projects - ICU Incubators for Red Cross Childrens' Hospital

At the end of July 2018, the upgrade of the WRC Red Cross Children’s Hospital ICU was almost complete. This project was led by Knysna RC and partnered by Beaufort West, Bellville, Cape Town, Claremont, George, Hermanus, Mossel Bay, Stellenbosch and Waterfront and a German RC and 18 Canadian RC’s and 1 USA club and a successful Global Grant was procured amounting to $253,419. This provided for the supply and installation of 3 Medhold Giraffe Warmers and 8 Drager Baby Leo Incubators including a training plan. 10/10 for excellent teamwork!

Project Infrastructure

The Infrastructure Projects intiative is relatively new and - by definition - take a long time to grow from inspiration to inauguration.

Infrastructure Projects are also expensive - often requiring multi-stakeholder involvement and multi-layer financing.

Capt Piet Postema with Headmaster Charles Marthinusen of Atlantis Secondary School. The upgrading of the facilities was made possible through a partnership between RC’s Shepherdstown and Waterfront and the WC Education Department.

Golden Oldies

Golden Oldies is a long-running project where, once a month, we invite a group of elderly citizens to a morning cake and tea (or the occasional Jazz Concert!).

This is, very often, the only outing they will have the entire year.
